Anxiety
Do you find yourself worrying often? Are dozens of thoughts racing through your mind, keeping you from living in the present moment? Your body may feel tense and tight because of stress throughout the day, and it’s difficult to breathe. This constant muscle tension can leave you drained and tired most days. You may feel helpless and overwhelmed at times. Is it hard to focus on what’s in front of you? All of this can make it hard to eat and sleep. You may even struggle to understand why you’re feeling this way.
Anxiety is a normal response that is part of the human experience. In fact, a low-to-moderate level of anxiety is healthy, and pushes you to fulfill your tasks and responsibilities. However, high levels of anxiety over time can cause distress, dysfunction, and can strain your health. Why does this happen in the first place?
The subconscious mind is wired for survival. When there is a build up of unmet needs and unresolved problems, your subconscious mind perceives a “threat to survival,” and as a result, you go into “survival mode,” or an elevated anxious state. Your anxiety is trying to bring unresolved problems to the surface of your conscious mind, so you can begin solving these problems, get your needs met, and eliminate the “threat to survival.” While this is a good thing, it doesn’t necessarily mean anxiety feels good.
You don’t have to endure this alone. Throughout therapy, we will listen to your anxiety and navigate it together. We will identify your unique needs and develop strategies to get your needs met in healthy ways. We will bring your unresolved problems to the conscious level and begin to reprogram the painful narratives attached to them. By doing this, we will effectively address your unresolved problems as realistically as we can.
I seek to empower you, to give you lifelong tools you can continue using once our time in therapy comes to an end.
